Celebration Day

Yippee!  FCAT is over.  As a reward for the students doing such an awesome job, we celebrated Friday with some games and pizza.  One of the games we played was a tweaked version of Minute to Win It.

The kids divided themselves into five teams.  I then told them the title of the challenge that they would be competing in.  As a team, they decided which teammate would compete in the challenge.  They really didn't know what was required, only the topic.

The first challenge was titled "Fancy Footwork".  For this challenge, students had to remove their shoes and socks.  Using only their toes, they had to transport 10 lima beans from one end of the room to the other.  The first contestant to get all ten beans in the team bowl earned five points for their team.  Second person earned four points and so on.

Next, students participated in "Full of Hot Air".  For this challenge, students used a straw to transport marshmallows from one bowl to the next.  They were not able to use their hands during the challenge.  If the marshmallow fell to the floor, they had to get down and use the straw to pick it back up.
Oops!  I dropped it!
"Slow and Steady" was the third challenge.  Students were given 3 golf balls and a baby spoon and they had to transport the ball to the appropriate bowl.  If the ball dropped, they had to go back to the start.

The last challenge was by far the favorite.  It was titled "Facial Expressions".  For this challenge, students sat in a chair and had a Cheez-It placed on their forehead.  They then had to crinkle, wrinkle, shake, and squint to try to get the Cheez-It in their mouth.  If the cracker fell off, another one was quickly added.  Take a look at some of the "Facial Expressions" this challenge created.

Overall, the kids had a lot of fun and the day was a success.  I'm certainly glad this test is OVER!

Finally Doing It!

After months of stalking other blogs, I have decided to give this bloggin' a try.  I must admit, I'm a little intimidated.  There are so many wonderful blogs that I am not sure I have anything interesting to offer.
If nothing else, it will be a great way to "journal" my classroom events.  I am so excited about sharing and "meeting" all the amazing people.
