Math Journals

When I first started blog stalking about a year and a half  ago, one of the first blogs I came across was Tales of Frogs and Cupcakes.  I immediately fell in love with Janaye's math journals!  She completely inspired me and I knew that I was going to have to get my kids making these notebooks!  I began midyear last year and my kids loved them!  They felt so grown-up and really used them to go back to when they couldn't quite remember something.

So this year, we started from day one!  My kiddos are still excited to add new information and they use them all the time for reference.  "Look how thick these things are!" is something that I am hearing a lot lately.  They are not perfect, and I have already thought of some changes.  However, I am still pretty proud of them and wanted to share.  So without further ado, here's some pictures of our awesome journals.

Overall, I am pleased with the way they are turning out.  Any suggestions?

Do you have a resource where you get all the foldables that you put in your math journals?

Lovely journals! I did basic math journals with my third graders last year and will be looping up with them to fourth. I want to expand on the math journaling because I think it lets the kids see math as an ever expanding base of knowledge...not just learn it, test it, forget it. Your journals might be the answer! My struggle is always the organization. Do you organize it by tabs ahead of time or do you just start with blank notebooks and let it evolve naturally? Thanks so much!

Great job! I am moving to 3rd grade and can't wait to use these? Can you tell where you get your resources?

@RachaelI created the foldables myself using PowerPoint.

Would you be willing to send us the PP file of your foldables? Or do you have it for sale somewhere?

Would you be willing to send the PP of your foldables? Interactive journals are very new to me, I would love to start using them, but I have no idea where to begin!

I'm new to teaching 5th grade math and will be doing the notebooks with math (did them with science and they are awesome) Some of your foldables and activities are great any way to get copies of them?

Do you give them the ideas of the entries? Or do they come up with their own? I will love to try this with my 6th grade students next year. Hope to get some ideas from you. :)
